Long ago in the Fertile Crescent, Egyptian scribes used hieroglyphics to engrave spoken language onto tablets. We owe our understanding of ancient human culture to these first transcribers. Accuracy was as important back then as it is today.

Accuracy is crucial to audio transcription because without it the entire meaning of the message can be lost or skewed. Here are a few examples of poorly transcribed audio via Technologizer.

2 -step process

Most transcription services use a two-step process. The first pass consists of one transcriber listening and typing what they hear. On the second pass, a reviewer goes over the previous transcriber’s work to check for errors. The problem with this model is that it leads to inaccurate transcripts; there just aren’t enough inspections to guarantee a high level of accuracy.

First Pass and Screening Process
The file is split into shorter segments and is transcribed by our certified home-based freelancers. Transcribers listen, transcribe, and rate files based on a variety of criteria. By involving many transcribers in the initial screening process, we’ve removed the subjectivity of only one person’s opinion of what’s considered poor audio. This is crucial because transcribers need clear audio to transcribe it accuratelyread more about audio quality here.

Third Pass
All segments are combined together to produce the final transcript. The transcript is proofread once to correct inconsistencies and mistakes.

Our QCs (our most elite and senior transcribers) give the files a white glove inspection to ensure the file is perfect. The quality must reach 99% before being delivered to the customer. We repeat this process until the minimum accuracy of 99% is achieved.

Customer satisfaction is an essential part of maintaining 99% accuracy. We rely on customer feedback to verify our transcripts are not only meeting our strict requirements but those of our customers.

Oftentimes transcription companies would rather maximize profits instead of maximizing their process. They offer low pricing or fast turnaround times while sacrificing accuracy. There’s an old saying in many industries: “Fast, good, cheap – choose two.” and transcription is no exception.
